GOUT

  1. “Crisis”- Colchicine- take For 3 weeks then stop
  2. Steroids-prednisone for 5 days then if needed, can begin
  3. Indomethacin– don’t take this simultaneously with Prednisone or it’s too much on your stomach and can cause ulcerations
  1. After crisis resolves in 3 wks, proceed to “Avoidance mode”- Allopurinol
  2. Stop taking immediately if a crisis/flare happens, or even 1 Allopurinol pill – taken during the beginning of a crisis can bring you to your knees in pain

Things to Avoid in Diet:

Meat

Protein

Seafood

Alcohol

Beans

Anchovies

Broccoli

Brussel Sprouts

Asparagus

Spinach

Also, caution with Hydrochlorothiazide blood pressure/ diuretic- this can aggravate gout and lead to tophi
